From shoeshine boy to governor: Oaminal inspires TCGC graduates with a story of resilience, triumph

TANGUB CITY, Misamis Occidental—Governor Henry S. Oaminal delivered a compelling keynote address at Tangub City Global College's (TCGC) 38th Commencement Exercises, sharing a message focused on the transformative power of education and the significance of personal resilience.

Addressing graduates, faculty, and distinguished guests, Governor Oaminal emphasized the crucial role education plays in overcoming challenges and contributing to societal progress. He recounted his own journey from humble beginnings, illustrating how perseverance and education were instrumental in shaping his path to success.

Governor Oaminal reflected on his early life in the remote hinterlands of Clarin, where he faced numerous hardships, including limited resources and long walks to school. Despite these challenges, he worked tirelessly, starting as a shoeshine boy and eventually rising to become a lawyer, businessman, and public servant.

During his speech, Governor Oaminal praised TCGC for its commitment to educational advancement, particularly noting the recent construction of nine new classrooms funded by the provincial government. He also commended the college's role in the "Asenso Pamilya: One Family, One Professional Program," which has provided scholarships to 68 students.

The Governor encouraged the graduates to embrace this year's commencement theme, "TCGC’s Education: Advancing Towards Global Integration," highlighting the importance of global awareness and intercultural understanding in today’s interconnected world. He urged them to embody core values such as integrity, compassion, and excellence, and to measure success not by personal accolades, but by the positive impact they have on others.

"True success," Governor Oaminal remarked, "is about the change you bring to your community, your province, and the world. As leaders, innovators, and compassionate individuals, you hold the potential to drive progress and create a better future."

In closing, Governor Oaminal extended heartfelt congratulations to the graduates, expressing pride in their achievements and optimism for their future contributions to a peaceful, progressive, and prosperous Misamis Occidental. (SMRN/PGMO)
