CAMIGUIN— The Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association (NMRAA) 2024 has officially opened in Camiguin, with the Misamis Occidental delegation in full force, ready to compete and excel in various sporting events. The opening ceremony, held amidst much fanfare and excitement, marked the beginning of a week-long competition that brings together athletes from across the region.

Representing the people of Misamis Occidental are provincial officials including the governor, vice governor, board members, and department heads from the provincial government of Misamis Occidental, as well as the mayors of the three cities and 14 municipalities of the province, and the four school divisions of Misamis Occidental, Oroquieta City, Ozamiz, and Tangub City, all present at NMRAA 2024.

The sports event gathers more than 5,000 young student-athletes from the provinces of Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Bukidnon, Cagayan De Oro City, Iligan City, and Lanao Del Norte. Hosted by the provincial government of Camiguin, the regional sporting event runs from May 13 to May 17, aiming to select the region’s finest representatives for the upcoming Palarong Pambansa in July, to be held in Cebu.

Governor Xavier Jesus Romualdo emphasized the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and dedication, urging participants to cherish every moment of the competition and the invaluable lessons it brings. "All of you, for sure, are very excited and have long been looking forward to competing, winning, and getting the chance to represent our region in the national meet. But I also hope that you take to heart, in your journey here in Camiguin over the next couple of days, the lessons you'll learn, the friendships you'll make, the bonds that you'll form, and the memories you'll create," Romualdo said.

DepEd-10 Regional Director Arturo Bayocot highlighted the Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association (NMRAA) as a symbol of unity and excellence that represents the region during its celebration of athleticism, camaraderie, and achievement.

Governor Henry S. Oaminal, leading the Misamis Occidental contingent, expressed his enthusiasm and confidence in the athletes. He extended his warmest congratulations to the province of Camiguin, led by Governor Xavier Jesus Romualdo, for hosting the 2024 NMRAA meet on this beautiful island. "My heartfelt gratitude for accommodating the delegates from the different provinces in the region and to the local government of the Municipality of Catarman headed by Mayor Kiterio Antonio Palarca for accommodating the Misamis Occidental delegation," he said.

The province of Misamis Occidental aims to be a model of good management and organization of major events, and the delegation's participation in the Palarong Pampook 2024 underscores their commitment to excellence and sportsmanship.
