MisOcc leads in empowering PWDs at first provincial disability prevention, rehabilitation celebration
OROQUIETA, Misamis Occidental--The
Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental, through the Persons
with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), hosted the first-ever Provincial
Disability Prevention & Rehabilitation celebration—a landmark event that
shone a spotlight on the talents and resilience of Persons with Disabilities
(PWDs) across the province.
The event featured a vibrant
variety show where PWDs from various LGUs showcased their extraordinary talents
in music and dance, captivating the audience and highlighting the diverse
abilities within the community.
Governor Henry S. Oaminal, in his
keynote address, underscored the broader significance of disability prevention
and rehabilitation. He emphasized that the initiative extends beyond medical
care to include the fundamental aspects of human rights and dignity.
"Our collective responsibility is to
dismantle the barriers—both physical and attitudinal—that prevent individuals
with disabilities from fully participating in all aspects of life,"
Governor Oaminal said
The Governor highlighted this
year’s theme, “Promoting Inclusion: Celebrating Abilities and Advocating
Access,” as a call to action for all community members.
He praised the resilience of
those living with disabilities and acknowledged the vital contributions of
healthcare professionals, caregivers, and advocacy organizations in advancing
the cause of disability prevention and rehabilitation. While acknowledging the
progress made, he also pointed out that significant work remains to ensure that
everyone in the community can lead a fulfilling life.
Governor Oaminal urged the
audience to renew their commitment to building an inclusive society by
advocating for accessibility, supporting rehabilitation programs, and raising
awareness about the importance of early intervention and prevention. “Let us be
allies in this important cause,” he urged, “and work together to ensure that
every person can live with dignity and purpose.”
In closing, the Governor
expressed his profound gratitude to everyone involved in these efforts,
particularly individuals with disabilities, whose courage and determination
inspire all. He also extended thanks to the professionals and advocates whose
work profoundly impacts many lives.
He called on the community to
unite in pursuit of a prosperous and harmonious Misamis Occidental, where
disability is not a barrier to success but a challenge that can be overcome
through collective effort and commitment.
