United for Asenso: Misamis Occidental Leaders Set 3-Year Development Roadmap in First Joint Council

OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental — Just three days into their new term, Governor Henry S. Oaminal convened the First Joint Legislative-Executive Development Council of Misamis Occidental—a full-day working session that ran until 11:00 p.m. on July 2, 2025—bringing together Asenso Pinoy Representative Henry “Indy” Oaminal Jr., all 17 mayors and vice mayors, and provincial officials to outline the province’s shared development vision for the next three years with actionable priorities set for the first six months.

Held at the NMSCST Convention Hall in Tangub City, the council meeting marked a historic first initiative in the province, aimed at synchronizing priorities across all local government units under the Asenso Misamis Occidental 5Ms development agenda.

The discussion centered on Governor Oaminal’s 5Ms Development Thrust, with focus on: Assessing the recent elections to refine leadership and governance, Expanding PhilHealth access down to the barangay level to boost both LGU income and public healthcare access, Upgrading primary care facilities and health programs, as reported by the Provincial Health Officer, Accelerating agricultural productivity by enhancing rice, corn, and coconut processing, Broadening employment and livelihood opportunities through public-private partnerships, and Strengthening local economies by improving supply chains and scaling up coconut-based industries

Governor Oaminal emphasized the urgent need to cascade PhilHealth benefits to the barangays, ensuring that every household benefits from government healthcare programs while also helping local governments improve fiscal health.

Rep. Indy Oaminal, now serving as the first nominee of Asenso Pinoy Partylist, rallied fellow leaders to move as one. “The real work begins now,” Cong. Indy said. “Let’s stay true to our values and work together to achieve Asenso para sa Bawat Pilipino.”

The Governor also addressed the province’s ongoing fight against illegal drugs, issuing a strong call to action to barangay leaders, “Our barangays must act. If we don’t move now, we risk returning to the past, where fear silences accountability. We cannot allow peaceful co-existence with illegal drug elements. Barangay captains must report suspects, and mayors must support our police. If not, our authorities may not be able to manage this alone,” he warned.

He emphasized that early intervention is key, underscoring the importance of monitoring, reporting, and empowering the grassroots level to fight the drug menace. “Let’s act now while the people still trust us. We must move in unity, together with our barangay leaders who have already proven their capability,” he added.

This joint council marks a bold, united start—anchored in shared vision, urgent action, and the unwavering commitment to make Misamis Occidental a Malinawon, Malambuon, ug Malipayon province. (SN/PGMO)
