Misamis Occidental to extend ₱4M calamity assistance to Earthquake-hit Cebu
Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental — In response to the
devastating magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Northern Cebu on September 30,
2025, the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental has committed to
providing ₱4 million in much-needed financial aid to support the affected
communities in Cebu.
This commitment was announced during the joint stakeholders’
meeting of the Provincial Development Council (PDC) and the Provincial Disaster
Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) held on October 10, 2025, at the
Asenso Misamis Occidental Sports and Cultural Center.
Under PDRRMC Resolution No. 8-2025, ₱4 million was
authorized from the Quick Response Fund (QRF), part of the 5% Provincial
Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund for 2025. The resolution was approved by Governor Henry S. Oaminal, who stressed
the importance of supporting Cebu in this time of need.
The aid will be distributed as follows: ₱2 million to Cebu Province, ₱1 million to Bogo City, ₱400,000 to Medellin, and ₱300,000 each to San Remigio and Daanbantayan. This assistance is included in the Revised Provincial Development Investment Program (PDIP) 2023–2025 and the Annual Investment Plan (AIP) for 2025, aligning with ongoing disaster response efforts.
Governor Oaminal reaffirmed Misamis Occidental’s commitment: “We will extend calamity assistance to families affected in Cebu. When we faced the shear line disaster during my first year as Governor, other provinces showed us generosity. Now, it is our turn to give back, guided by the Asenso Misamis core values of being respectful (matinahuron), honest (matinud-anon), and helpful (matinabangon).”
Cebu remains under a state of calamity as thousands continue
to face aftershocks and displacement. The aid from Misamis Occidental will
support ongoing relief and recovery operations. (SN/PGMO)
