Ozamiz City Celebrates 77th Charter Anniversary with Grand Perangat Festival 2025

 


OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental — A burst of tradition and celebration filled the streets of Ozamiz City as it marked its 77th Charter Anniversary and the Feast of Nuestra Señora dela Concepcion y del Triunfo de la Cruz de Migpangi through this year’s Perangat Festival 2025.

A total of 11 contingents, composed of schools and barangays joined the colorful parade and ritual competitions, each highlighting traditional Subanen rites such as enthronement, thanksgiving, baptism, healing, and courtship. The celebration showcased not only the city’s deep cultural roots but also the creativity and talent of the youth.

Vice Mayor Simplicia Neri thanked all those who participated and supported the festival.

“Atong isaulog ang ika-77 nga anibersaryo sa charter sa dakbayan ug ang pista sa atong mahal nga patrona, ang Birhen sa Cotta. Daghang salamat sa tanang contingents, teachers, ug stakeholders nga naghatag kinabuhi sa Perangat Festival,” she said during her message.

The event was made even more memorable with the presence of Governor Henry S. Oaminal, who congratulated the people of Ozamiz and surprised the participants by tripling the original prize amounts, giving this year’s celebration the biggest reward pool in its history.

“To all participating teams, organizers, and the people of Ozamiz—congratulations. Let us continue to support one another toward our shared vision: Asenso Ozamiz, Asenso Misamis Occidental. Diri sa atong dakbayan, bisan pa sa ulan, magpadayon ta sa paglihok alang sa malinawon, malambuon ug malipayon nga kinabuhi,” the governor said.

The Perangat Festival was organized by the City Government of Ozamiz under the leadership of Mayor Sam Norman Fuentes, with strong backing from Governor Oaminal, Second District Congressman Ando Oaminal, and Asenso Pinoy Party-list Representative Indy Oaminal.

Among the winners of the Perangat Festival 2025 were Marcelino Sergio Integrated School, Gala National High School, and Kogon National High School, who bagged the Best in Street Dancing award with a ₱100,000 prize. The Best in Musicality award, worth ₱40,000, went to Pulot NHS, Tabid NHS, Labinay NHS, and Jose Integrated School, while Ozamiz City National High School took home ₱40,000 for Best in Costume. 

In the Festival Queen 2025 competition, OCSAT claimed first place with ₱30,000, followed by MIT with ₱21,000, and La Salle University in third with ₱15,000. The most anticipated Ritual Showdown crowned OCSAT as Grand Champion, earning a whopping ₱1,050,000. Marcelino Sergio IS, Gala NHS, and Kogon NHS took second place with ₱750,000, while Ozamiz City NHS landed third, winning ₱450,000.

This year’s Perangat Festival proved once again that Ozamiz City is not only rich in culture and devotion, but also firmly committed to promoting youth development, local heritage, and a unified community spirit. (SN/PGMO)
