Governor Oaminal pushes reforms in Agriculture, Health, and Tourism in Misamis Occidental
MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL — Demonstrating once again that true public service knows no time, Governor Henry S. Oaminal led a late-night strategic meeting with department heads of the Provincial Government to assess the ongoing implementation of flagship programs under the Asenso Misamis Occidental Agenda. The meeting extended until 11 PM—underscoring the administration’s tireless commitment to progress and meaningful change for every Misamisnon.
The meeting focused on major updates in agriculture, health, tourism, disaster preparedness, and peace and order, priority sectors being transformed through sustainable, people-centered governance.
In agriculture, Governor Oaminal received progress reports on the Asenso Rice Farmers Full Assistance (ARFFA) Program, which includes fertilizer distribution, expanded support for corn and palay-buying initiatives, and the rice affordability campaign ‘Baratong Bugas para sa Misamisnon’ through Asenso Kadiwa outlets, as well as the coconut industry program.
As of July 29, a total of 4,605 rice farmers had received fertilizer inputs for the 2025 wet season, with 4,608 bags distributed. The distribution remains ongoing in various LGUs and will continue until August.
Since its launch on June 30, 2025, the Asenso BBM Rice Program has sold 302,210 kilos of milled rice at just ₱20 per kilo through Kadiwa Centers in Ozamiz, Tangub, Oroquieta, Clarin, Lopez Jaena, and Jimenez—making it the first program of its kind in Mindanao. The initiative is set to expand to more municipalities across Misamis Occidental.
The Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) also initiated geo-tagging and mapping training for coconut farms. The initiative aims to improve data accuracy and farmer validation and supports the development of a Coconut Processing Facility in the province. It aligns with national goals to enhance the coconut value chain and processing infrastructure in Northern Mindanao.
Health sector updates included improvements in hospitalization access, expanded medical services, and veterinary care to support livestock health and productivity.
The tourism officers outlined strategies to attract more visitors, including new tour packages, targeted marketing campaigns, and the enhanced promotion of Misamis Occidental’s rich cultural and natural attractions.
“These initiatives are not simply for compliance—they represent a deliberate and sustainable effort to uplift the lives of Misamisnons,” Governor Oaminal emphasized.
To further strengthen disaster resilience, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported ongoing preparations for the upcoming Fire Olympics on August 25–27, designed to improve emergency response capabilities.
The meeting also addressed the intensified campaign for drug-free communities, the strict enforcement of the Provincial Tax Ordinance, and preparations for the upcoming Provincial Anniversary Celebration, which will showcase Misamis Occidental’s transformation under Asenso leadership.
With more than
12,000 rice farmers already benefiting from the ARFFA program and other key
initiatives, Governor Oaminal’s administration continues to champion inclusive
growth and sustainable development that reaches every Misamisnon. (SN/PGMO)
