Governor Oaminal outlines next steps to deliver real results for Misamisnons under Asenso Governance

Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental — Governor Henry S. Oaminal laid out his administration’s next steps to sustain progress and deliver real results under Asenso Governance, following the sweeping victory of Team Asenso in the May 2025 elections.

In his address during the joint oath-taking ceremony of newly elected provincial and local officials, the governor emphasized that this new term is not just a continuation of service but a clear call to do more, reach more, and serve better. “For the first time in our province’s history, we now have a full slate of officials—from congressman down to barangay councilors—elected under one united banner,” he said, describing the mandate as a reflection of public trust in a governance model rooted in unity, fiscal responsibility, and people-centered programs.

Despite a ₱270-million drop in the National Tax Allocation (NTA) in 2023, the provincial budget grew through fiscal discipline. The governor emphasized that no new taxes or loans were introduced. Savings from procurement reforms—₱33 million from heavy equipment and ₱22 million from medicine procurement boosted the budget for services.

Local revenues also rose significantly, with income from government enterprises helping fund health, education, and infrastructure programs.

Oaminal highlighted key accomplishments: the Asenso Rice Farmers Program raising crop yields; over 3,000 scholars receiving ₱25,000 per semester; and over 100,000 residents benefiting from free hospitalization. A ₱1-billion medical center nears completion, alongside ₱4.3 billion in social aid released since 2022.

Tourism and public safety also saw gains, with eco-tourism sites like AMORAP nearing completion and patrol vehicles distributed to 371 barangays. More than ₱2.4 billion in roads and buildings were completed without borrowing.

Misamis Occidental is now a first-class province, officially removed from the list of the country’s poorest and declared insurgency-free. It ranks among the top five in income growth and per capita GDP.

Addressing critics, Gov. Oaminal said, “As they say, a ripe mango attracts stones. We will respond not with anger, but with stronger service.” He also invited unity, especially from political opponents, saying, “The Misamis Occidental you see today is no longer what it used to be and we are just getting started.”

With a fully aligned government team, Oaminal committed to expanding programs, citing upcoming rice and coconut processing centers as drivers of agri-industrial growth. “Victory is not about the number of seats we won—it’s about how many lives we can transform,’’ he added. (SN/PGMO)
