MOELCI-II settles ₱15.4M obligation to Ozamiz City; Mayor Indy highlights importance of reform and good governance
Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental – In a
significant financial breakthrough, the Misamis Occidental II Electric
Cooperative, Inc. (MOELCI-II) has fully paid its ₱15,466,237.67 unpaid
obligations to the City Government of Ozamiz.
Mayor Henry “Indy” Oaminal Jr.
announced the development through his official social media account, expressing
gratitude to MOELCI-II’s Board of Directors, headed by President Mayeth Romero
Sy, Vice President Pempe Deguilmo, and Project Supervisor Cesar Faeldon.
"This payment of the cooperative’s
dues to the city is but another sign of that, as this will definitely translate
to Php 15,466,237.67 worth of more services, programs, and projects for all
Ozamiznons,’’ said Mayor Indy.
According to the Mayor, when he,
Governor Henry S. Oaminal, and Congressman Ando Oaminal assumed office in 2022,
MOELCI-II was among the province’s biggest operational concerns—plagued by poor
service, frequent power interruptions, electricity rates soaring above ₱17/kWh,
and multiple unpaid liabilities accruing interest.
To address these challenges, local
leaders worked to help install credible and community-driven private sector
leaders into the cooperative’s board. Since then, the cost of electricity has
been significantly reduced to around ₱11/kWh—cutting ₱6/kWh off residents’
bills.
“MOELCI II has a lot more improvement
to do, including decreasing the number of power interruptions and further
decreasing electricity costs. But I believe it is already in the right path with
good people in charge,’’ Mayor Indy emphasized.
The city government views this payment
as both a financial recovery and a result of ongoing reforms within MOELCI-II,
showing that honest leadership and collaboration can lead to real improvements
for the public.(SN/PGMO)
