Mayor Indy Oaminal assures support and safer relocation for affected families in Barangay Catadman

OZAMIZ CITY — Congressman-elect and Mayor Henry “Indy” Oaminal extended his support to the families affected by the recent disaster in Barangay Catadman, assuring them of the government's commitment to help them recover and rebuild safely.

“Bisan pa sa inyong kasakit karon, naningkamot mi nga motabang ug mosiguro nga inyong pagbangon luwas ug lig-on,” Mayor Oaminal said.

He emphasized the importance of a national law, passed as early as the 1970s, requiring proper permits before building homes—designed to keep communities safe from floods, fires, and other hazards. For years, however, many homes were built without regard to safety, putting thousands of families at risk.

“In Ozamiz alone, over 10,000 households are in danger zones. That’s why we started raising awareness and finding solutions since 2022,” he added.

He reminded residents that while homes and belongings can be replaced, lives cannot. “We thank God no lives were lost. That’s the most important thing.”

Mayor Oaminal also confirmed that Catadman is part of the city's long-term housing plan, and relocation efforts are being studied to provide safer homes for informal settlers.

On June 10, the City Government, together with the Provincial and National Governments, united to provide assistance directly to affected families. The help was made possible through the efforts of Second District Rep. Ando Oaminal, Governor Henry S. Oaminal, Mayor Indy Oaminal, the City Council, and DSWD.

“Tabangi lang pud mi sa inyong pagbangon—nga inyong kapuy-an sa sunod luwas ug gawas sa peligro. Kami sa Team Asenso, andam kanunay motabang ug molihok para sa inyong kaluwasan ug kaayohan,” he said. (SN/PGMO)

Mayor Indy Oaminal assures the people that Team Asenso will always be there in times of need. In every challenge, the local government remains committed to ensuring that recovery is done the right way — with safety, sincerity, and genuine peace for all. (Photos: AONC)
