MisOcc hosts historic NMRAA Meet 2025: A celebration of sports, unity and progress

Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental – A new chapter in sports history unfolds as Misamis Occidental welcomes the Northern Mindanao Regional Athletic Association (NMRAA) Meet 2025. With boundless enthusiasm and pride, the province opens its doors to thousands of athletes, coaches, and officials from across Region 10, setting the stage for an unforgettable showcase of athletic excellence, camaraderie, and regional unity.

The grand opening of NMRAA 2025 is graced by esteemed leaders and dignitaries, led by Dr. Malcom S. Garma, Undersecretary for Operations and Secretary General of Palarong Pambansa. Joining him are Congressman Jason P. Almonte (1st District, Misamis Occidental),  Vice-Governor Rowena L. Gutierrez, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, mayors and officials from across the region, DepEd Assistant Regional Director Dr. Federico P. Martin, schools division superintendents, and hundreds of guests and spectators.

Governor Henry S. Oaminal extended a warm welcome to all participants, emphasizing that NMRAA 2025 is not just a sporting event but a platform for unity, sportsmanship, and progress.

This year’s NMRAA Meet is made even more special as it coincides with the opening of the Panguil Bay Bridge, the country’s longest sea-crossing bridge. This engineering marvel has dramatically improved connectivity, allowing faster, safer, and more convenient travel to and from Misamis Occidental, making the province an even more accessible hub for major regional events like NMRAA 2025.

The theme of this year’s NMRAA, “One NMRAA, Forging a Legacy: Victory Through Fair Play and Integrity,” reflects the essence of the event. Governor Oaminal highlighted that beyond medals and championships, the true measure of success is the values instilled in every athlete—discipline, resilience, teamwork, and respect.

"Sports is not just about winning; it is about building character, fostering friendships, and creating a legacy that inspires future generations," he said.

Governor Oaminal reaffirmed his commitment to sports development as a key pillar of his administration’s vision—"Asenso Misamis Occidental: Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon, ug Malipayon."

"We invest in sports because we believe in the potential of our youth. Through sports, we instill discipline, resilience, and excellence, molding them into future leaders who will continue our province’s journey to progress," he said.

A Message to Athletes: This is Your Moment

As the competitions begin, Governor Oaminal reminded all athletes that their journey in NMRAA 2025 is more than just about competing—it is about pushing limits, inspiring others, and making history.

"Wear your colors with pride, compete with honor, and remember that the true essence of sports is in how you uplift others along the way. Today, you are not just playing for medals; you are playing for your communities, your families, and your future," he emphasized.

A United Effort for a Successful NMRAA 2025

The Governor extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Department of Education, led by Regional Director Arturo Bayocot, Assistant Regional Director Dr. Federico Martin, and the entire NMRAA organizing team, including the host divisions—Misamis Occidental, Oroquieta City, Ozamiz City, and Tangub City. He also thanked all coaches, officials, and volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this event a success.

"Your dedication and hard work make all the difference. Thank you for ensuring that NMRAA 2025 is not only well-organized but also meaningful for every athlete and delegation," he said.

Finally, he expressed his appreciation to all delegates, guests, and spectators for their presence, underscoring how their participation adds to the excitement and prestige of NMRAA 2025.(SN/PGMO)
