MisOcc gov't distributes free fertilizers to boost rice farmers' productivity
MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL – To
strengthen local agriculture and support rice farmers, the Provincial
Government of Misamis Occidental, led by Governor Henry Oaminal, in partnership
with local government units (LGUs), is distributing FREE fertilizers under the
Asenso Rice Farmers Full Assistance Program.
Farmers in Ozamiz City, Plaridel,
Calamba, Tudela, Clarin, and Panaon were the first to receive assistance, while
distribution continues across other cities and municipalities until February
2025.
P100 Million Allocated for
Agriculture
Board Member Winston “Dondon”
Catane, Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture emphasized that this
initiative reflects Governor Oaminal’s strong commitment to uplifting local
farmers.
"Our governor has allocated
P100 million for the agricultural sector—the first time in our province's
history that such priority has been given to farmers," Catane said.
He also highlighted the upcoming
completion of two modern mechanical dryers and milling plants, set to open in
early 2025, further strengthening the province’s agricultural infrastructure.
Farmers Express Gratitude
Local farmer Rufino Cañio from
Barangay Bacolod, who received three types of fertilizers, expressed his
gratitude saying, "We’re very happy because this is a big help for us.
Fertilizers cost a lot, so this assistance truly eases our burden. Thank you,
Gov, Mayor, and Congressman."
Full Support for Rice Farmers
Beyond fertilizers, the Asenso
Rice Farmers Full Assistance Program also provides land preparation support,
free fertilizers, post-harvest assistance, and marketing support.
Starting with the 2025 dry
cropping season, this initiative aims to reduce farming costs, improve yields,
and sustain high rice production—ensuring food security and economic growth for
Misamis Occidental. (SN/PGMO)
