MisOcc rolls out Baratong Bugas para sa Misamisnon in Jimenez, Aloran, and Sinacaban towns
Misamis Occidental, January
17, 2025 – The Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental, led by Governor
Henry S. Oaminal, has officially launched the Baratong Bugas para sa mga
Misamisnon (BBM) Asenso Rice Program from January 13-17 in the towns of
Jimenez, Aloran, and Sinacaban. This initiative, carried out in collaboration
with local officials including Jimenez Mayor Joselito C. Chiong, Aloran Mayor
Junipher Roa, and Sinacaban Mayor Dello Lood, is part of the national Kadiwa
ng Pangulo program, which aims to provide affordable and high-quality goods
to local consumers.
The BBM Asenso Rice Program
directly benefits local farmers by offering rice at an affordable price of P43
per kilo. This initiative aims to make rice more accessible to local families
while providing critical support to farmers. Governor Oaminal emphasized that
this launch marks a significant milestone, being the first such effort of its
kind at this scale in Misamis Occidental.
Governor Oaminal’s commitment to
agricultural development and farmer welfare is clearly reflected in the launch
of the program, which is aligned with the province’s 5Ms Mantra: “Misamisnon
Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon, ug Malipayon” (Peaceful, Prosperous, and Happy
Misamisnon). Through this program, the provincial government not only ensures
affordable rice for consumers but also empowers local farmers, advancing the
welfare of the people.
Winston “Dondon” Catane, Chairman
of the Committee on Agriculture, expressed his support for the initiative, saying,
“Ang point ni Governor nga kung ato napalambo ang atong mga farmers,
kinahanglan nga kini nga klase nga benepisyo kinahanglan nga mapaabot nato sa
mga konsumante. In what way, atong ibalik pag baligya ang atong gipalit nga
humay sa barato nga presyo” (The point of Governor Oaminal is that if we help
develop our farmers, we must ensure that the benefits reach consumers through
affordable rice).
The rice distribution in each
town is set as follows: Jimenez will distribute 1,854 bags, Aloran will provide
2,200 bags (each weighing 5 kg), and Sinacaban will offer 2,000 bags. Residents
can purchase rice at the respective municipal halls during weekdays, while
supplies last.
Governor Oaminal highlighted that
the provincial government has allocated P100 million in support of local
farmers. This initiative aims to provide direct benefits to the agricultural
sector, which has long been an essential part of the province’s economy.
“Through this program, we want to
ensure that Misamisnons have access to quality rice at a lower price, while
also supporting our local farmers,” Governor Oaminal said. He also emphasized
that the BBM Asenso Rice Program aligns with the vision of President Ferdinand
“Bongbong” Marcos Jr. through the Kadiwa ng Pangulo initiative, which
seeks to ensure food security and empower farmers by connecting them directly
to consumers.
As part of the Asenso Rice
Farmers Full Assistance Program, the provincial government is also supporting
farmers with land preparation, free seeds, fertilizers, and financial aid.
These efforts underscore Governor Oaminal’s ongoing commitment to uplifting the
agricultural sector and securing a stable food supply for the people of Misamis
Occidental.
Notably, this initiative is the
first of its kind in the entire Philippines, setting a model for other
provinces to follow. Following the success of the initial rollout, the BBM
Asenso Rice Program will continue to expand across other municipalities in Misamis
Occidental.
This launching program is
expected to pave the way for long-term support for farmers, greater food
security, and economic prosperity for the people of Misamis Occidental.
