MisOcc to launch Baratong Bugas para sa Misamisnon (BBM) Asenso Rice Program at Asenso Trade Fair
MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) –
In a significant move to bolster local agriculture, the Provincial Government
of Misamis Occidental is set to launch the Baratong Bugas para sa Misamisnon
(BBM) Asenso Rice Program during the Asenso Trade Fair from October 25 to
November 10, 2024.
This initiative aims to provide
affordable rice to all families in Misamis Occidental, allowing them to
purchase 5 kilograms at just ₱43.00 per kilogram. The trade fair booth will be
open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with local government unit (LGU) employees
eligible to buy rice from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Provincial Agriculture Officer
Jun Salaguste stated, “This program highlights our locally sourced rice, sold
at an incredibly reasonable price of ₱43 per kilo, significantly below market
rates. We invite everyone to visit the trade fair from October 25 to November
10, 2024, for the opening.”
Governor Henry S. Oaminal
envisions this initiative as part of a broader strategy to benefit all
Misamisnons. He remarked that the trade fair aims to showcase products from
local farmers, enhancing their livelihoods. “We want to ensure that Misamisnons
have access to quality rice at a lower price while supporting our local
farmers,” he affirmed.
Winston "Dondon"
Catane, Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, added that this program
aligns with the “Kadiwa ng Pangulo” initiative of President Ferdinand
“Bongbong” Marcos Jr., which seeks to ensure a stable food supply and empower
farmers to sell their products directly to consumers.
The provincial government is
purchasing rice at prices 1 to 2 pesos higher than current market rates,
addressing challenges related to simultaneous harvests that have historically
led to price drops. This strategy ensures fair pricing for both farmers and
consumers.
This initiative is part of the
Asenso Rice Farmers Full Assistance Program, which includes support for land
preparation, distribution of free seeds and fertilizers, and financial
assistance. These efforts reflect Governor Oaminal's commitment to uplifting
the agricultural sector and ensuring food security for the people of Misamis
Occidental.
By promoting local products and
providing affordable rice options, the BBM Asenso Rice Program is a vital step
toward a sustainable and prosperous future for both farmers and residents
alike. (SN/PGMO)
