Governor Oaminal's 3rd address: a vision for peace in Misamis Occidental
Tangub City, Misamis Occidental – In his third State of the
Province Address, Governor Henry S. Oaminal emphasized the crucial role of
peace and order in fostering a progressive and happy society.
"The foundation of a progressive and happy society is
peace. It is the starting point for the advancement of humankind," he
stated, underscoring the province's commitment to becoming drug-free,
crime-free, and insurgency-free.
Governor Oaminal highlighted the province's intensified
efforts in the campaign against illegal drugs. The local government has
established strong partnerships with law enforcement agencies, including the Philippine
Army, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National
Police (PNP), as well as community stakeholders.
As a result of these collaborative efforts, 437 out of 470
affected barangays have been declared drug-cleared.
To support rehabilitation and reform, the Asenso Misamis
Occidental Balay Silangan Reformatory Center was inaugurated at Barangay Kimat,
Tangub City, funded during Oaminal’s tenure as Congressman of the 2nd District.
In addition to combating illegal drugs, the governor
reported a significant reduction in crime rates. Collaborating closely with the
PNP, crime statistics reveal a drop in the average monthly crime rate from
24.52% in 2016 to 16.34% in 2023, with a further decline to 13.64% in the first
half of 2024.
“We thank the Philippine National Police Provincial Command,
led by Provincial Director Police Colonel Rommel B. Magleo, for your unwavering
efforts in maintaining peace and order in our province,” Oaminal expressed.
The governor also addressed the issue of insurgency,
announcing that Misamis Occidental has been declared insurgency-free.
This landmark declaration was made official on September 27,
2024, with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. attending the ceremony
in Tangub City.
"We have reached our goal of becoming an
insurgency-free province," Oaminal declared, highlighting the importance
of collaboration with the Philippine Army and local communities in achieving
lasting peace.
To further support former rebels, Governor Oaminal announced
plans for a housing project in Don Victoriano. This initiative aims not only to
provide shelter but also to serve as a tourist attraction that commemorates the
province’s journey toward peace-building and victory over insurgency.
As Misamis Occidental continues its pursuit of peace, the
provincial government remains dedicated to creating a safe and prosperous
environment for all its residents. (SN/PGMO)
