Unified leadership for Panguil Bay Bridge: a game-changer for Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte
MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL – In a
pivotal meeting, Governor Henry S. Oaminal of Misamis Occidental and Governor
Imelda Quibranza Dimaporo of Lanao del Norte came together with representatives
from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to finalize provisions
of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) regarding the management of the highly
anticipated Panguil Bay Bridge.
The primary focus of the
discussion was the creation of a unified oversight body to ensure seamless
management of this transformative infrastructure.
Governor Oaminal underscored the
importance of having a single authority overseeing the bridge, saying,
"There should only be one management because there is only one
bridge."
He proposed the formation of the Panguil
Bay Bridge Management (PBBM) Authority, which would be co-chaired by the two
governors and involve key stakeholders such as Regional Directors from DPWH,
the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Land Transportation Office (LTO), and
the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Governor Dimaporo echoed
Oaminal's views, highlighting the potential risks of divided management and the
importance of unified leadership for the bridge's long-term success.
Both leaders emphasized that
collaboration between their provinces and the DPWH would ensure smooth
operations, efficient decision-making, and coordinated maintenance of the
bridge.
This meeting marked a significant
step toward joint governance that will maximize the Panguil Bay Bridge’s
potential to boost local economies and strengthen connectivity between Misamis
Occidental and Lanao del Norte.
Stakeholders are optimistic that
the bridge’s successful management will not only stimulate economic growth but
also deepen regional ties, making it a cornerstone for future development in
Mindanao.
The Panguil Bay Bridge is set to become a symbol of progress and cooperation, and the unified leadership proposed in this agreement ensures that it will serve both provinces effectively for generations to come. (PGMO)
