President Marcos to Inaugurate Mindanao’s Longest Bridge
Misamis Occidental — President Ferdinand R. Marcos
Jr. will lead the inauguration of the Panguil Bay Bridge, the longest bridge in
Mindanao, on September 27.
Misamis Occidental Governor Henry S. Oaminal confirmed that
the President accepted their invitation, which was extended in July.
"After several visits to the President’s office, he
confirmed his attendance for the inauguration," Oaminal stated. The visit
may also include a declaration of Misamis Occidental as an insurgency-free
province.
Governor Oaminal described the bridge's completion as a
"milestone," culminating two decades of project proposals from
Congress, national agencies, and local partners.
He noted that the bridge has been a long-held aspiration for
residents since the 1950s.
"The bridge will significantly enhance travel
efficiency, reducing travel time and boosting tourism opportunities," he
added.
Oaminal expressed optimism about increased tourism
activities following the bridge’s opening, which will offer a permanent
solution to connectivity challenges and stimulate economic growth by improving
access to markets and trade.
Spanning 3.169 kilometers and costing approximately PHP 7.8
billion, the Panguil Bay Bridge connects Tangub City in Misamis Occidental with
Tubod town in Lanao del Norte. Construction began in 2016.
