MisOcc Governor inspires NMSCST graduates to embrace innovation, lead with purpose
TANGUB CITY, Misamis Occidental —
"The future is yours to shape. Embrace innovation, lead with purpose, and
strive to make a difference." This empowering message was delivered by
Misamis Occidental Governor Henry S. Oaminal to the graduates at the 23rd
Commencement Exercises of Northwestern Mindanao State College of Science and
Technology (NMSCST) on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, held at People’s Gymnasium,
Tangub City.
Serving as the Guest of Honor and
Commencement Speaker, Governor Oaminal lauded the 825 graduates for reaching
this significant milestone and urged them to use their education to create
positive change in society.
The event, held under the theme
"Innovating for a Technological Future: Leading Change towards Industry
5.0 and Global Competitiveness," emphasized the institution's commitment
to preparing students for the challenges of an increasingly technology-driven
world.
Addressing a diverse audience,
including Congressman Sancho Fernando F. Oaminal, City Mayor Hon. Sabiniano S.
Canama, Commissioner Ethel Agnes Valenzuela of the Commission on Higher
Education, members of the Board of Trustees, and esteemed faculty members,
Governor Oaminal expressed his deep gratitude for being invited to speak at the
commencement exercises.
"NMSCST holds a special
place in my heart because education has always been a top priority in my
endeavors, even during my tenure as Congressman," Governor Oaminal
remarked. He highlighted his contributions to the school's infrastructure,
including the construction of vital facilities such as the library complex,
dormitory buildings, engineering and academic structures, among others.
Additionally, he proudly mentioned his authorship of Republic Act No. 11186,
paving the way for the conversion of NMSCST into the University of Northwestern
Mindanao (UNM), aimed at enhancing academic opportunities and research
capabilities.
Governor Oaminal acknowledged the
challenges ahead, particularly in meeting the university status requirements,
such as increasing student enrollment. To support this goal, he announced
initiatives under the One Family One Professional Program to prioritize local
students for enrollment, thereby ensuring access to quality education.
"With the increase in
enrollment comes the responsibility to provide adequate resources,"
Governor Oaminal emphasized. He pledged the full support of the Provincial
Government of Misamis Occidental in funding additional teaching staff and necessary
facilities to accommodate the growing student population.
Reflecting on NMSCST's evolution
and its pivotal role in educational development across Misamis Occidental and
neighboring provinces, Governor Oaminal commended the institution for fostering
a culture of innovation and excellence. He encouraged graduates to embrace
innovation, critical thinking, and global competitiveness as they embark on
their professional journeys.
"To the graduating class of
2024, today marks not just an end, but a new beginning in your lives. Your
dedication and perseverance have brought you to this significant
milestone," Governor Oaminal said.
As the ceremony concluded, Governor Oaminal reiterated his belief in the transformative power of education and expressed confidence that the graduates of NMSCST are well-equipped to make meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond.
