More than 2,000 Fisherfolk in Ozamiz grateful for government cash assistance

Fisherfolk in Ozamiz City were all smiles as they received their PHP3,000 cash assistance from Team Asenso, led by City Mayor Henry “Indy” Oaminal Jr., the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Ozamiz City, 2nd District Rep. Sancho Fernando Oaminal, Governor Henry S. Oaminal, and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Misamis Occidental.

This aid was distributed through the 'Ayuda sa mga Ozamiznon para Asenso' program, supporting vulnerable and marginalized communities, including fisherfolk, during the 76th Charter Anniversary and Feast of the Blessed Birhen sa Cotta in Ozamiz City on July 15.

Arvin Medalla, one of the beneficiaries, thanked the city and provincial government for their support and efforts to assist the fisherfolk.

In his message, Mayor Oaminal emphasized the importance of the program, noting that it was created in response to challenging times marked by rising prices and various global events. He expressed gratitude to national leaders and representatives for their efforts in making this initiative possible.

"We extend our gratitude to President Ferdinand Marcos, represented today by the DSWD Angels in Red Vest, Speaker Martin Romualdez, and Rep. Sancho Fernando Oaminal. We also thank our congressional leaders for securing the necessary budget and funding to support these initiatives, especially for our beloved fisherfolk," he said.

Governor Henry Oaminal highlighted the collaborative efforts behind the program, saying that the funds distributed are the result of hard work by Congressman Ando and himself. Thanks to the support from Speaker Martin Romualdez, significant funds were allocated to the DSWD, now being distributed through the Ayuda sa Kapus ang Kita Program (AKAP).

Governor Oaminal also commended the dedication of the fisherfolk sector, emphasizing that their hard work and cooperation are vital for community progress.

“We are inspired by the dedication of the fisherfolk sector. Your hard work and cooperation are vital for the progress of our community. Together, we can achieve true development and prosperity,’’ he shared.

He reiterated his commitment to continuing support for the community, stressing the importance of unity and cooperation for sustained development.
