Asenso administration brings aid for the first time to LGBTQIA+ community in Ozamiz
To emphasize that they are appreciated by their local government, Ozamiz City Mayor Indy Oaminal, along with 2nd District Rep. Ando Oaminal and Governor Henry Oaminal of Misamis Occidental, spearheaded the 'Ayuda sa mga Ozamiznon para Asenso’ initiative with the support of the national government agencies during the 76th Charter Anniversary and Feast of the Blessed Birhen sa Cotta in Ozamiz City.
As part of the initiative, at least 500 LGBTQIA+
individuals received P3,000 each. This aid marked the first instance of
targeted support for the LGBTQIA+ community in the city, highlighting
significant recognition of their presence and needs in society.
Ozamiz Mayor Indy Oaminal emphasized the
importance of unity in governance, saying, "If our city council,
provincial board, and all our leaders from various sectors come together, the
programs we create and deliver will truly benefit the people. Thanks to the
trust you've placed in us, we have achieved this first-ever assistance for the
LGBTQIA+ sector."
Meanwhile, Governor Henry S. Oaminal echoed this
sentiment, noting that for the first time, the LGBTQIA+ community and all
sectors were recognized by the Asenso administration without discrimination.
"No matter what sector you belong to, we can
all contribute to the progress not just of our society but also for the welfare
of all Ozamiznons," he said.
"Our vision is Asenso Ozamiz, Asenso Misamis
Occidental. Your contribution to progress is vital for the community. Our
direction for progress encompasses not only infrastructure, agriculture, and
education programs but also aims to ensure that all Ozamiznons and Misamisnons
live peacefully, prosperously, and happily,’’ he further highlighted the vision
of team Asenso.
Governor Oaminal also expressed his enthusiasm
for engaging with the LGBTQIA+ sector, acknowledging their importance in the
community. (SN/PGMO)
