Bearing the theme, “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan!’’, the provincial government aimed to transform and uplift women’s roles in society, fostering their courage and confidence to face challenges and seize opportunities.

The 5Ms contest became the highlight of the event wherein 17 Federated Associations from the different local governments of Misamis Occidental competed.

"Kining atong pag selebrar sa bulan sa kababayen an, mao kini ang pag-ila sa katungod ug katakus sa atong mga kababayen-an dili lang diha sa mga gimbuhaton sulod sa panimalay kundili sa pagtabang sa pagpa-Asenso sa pamilya ug sa tibuok katilingban,’’ Working Governor Henry S. Oaminal said during the culmination of Women’s Month.

Governor Oaminal recognized the significant roles women play in society, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging and appreciating their contributions to the province's development.

“We recognize and honor the efforts of all the women in various walks of life. Our nurturers and caregivers inspire us with their selfless love, our unsung heroes make a difference in their communities every day. Through your hard work and passion, makita nato ang kabag-ohan sa atong komunidad. It has been a remarkable celebration of empowerment and advocacy,’’ he shared.

“The support and commitment of PGMO will continue. We are dedicated to providing opportunities that will empower women and champion gender equality to pave the way for a more inclusive and just society,’’ he added.

He assured that the Provincial Government, through the Provincial Gender and Development Office, is committed to protecting the rights of every woman and child against any form of violence.

Records from the Provincial Police Office showed that the number of abused women decreased from 117 in 2022 to 85 in 2023, marking a notable 27% decline. This decrease reflects the tireless and collaborative efforts between PGMO, the Provincial Police, and all stakeholders to prioritize safety and protection in the province.

The governor also stressed the need for intensified efforts, given that the number of abused children increased by 22% from 98 in 2022 to 120 in 2023.

“These incidents of abuse against women and children should be halted and prevented. We need to support and equip them with knowledge, skills, and talents that empower them as the lights of our homes. They are our vital partners towards achieving our 5Ms development thrust of Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon ug Malipayon,’’ Governor Oaminal said. (SN/PGMO)
