The Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental launched the “GOV Motabang” initiative, which aims to reduce violence against women and children in the province. The acronym “GOV Motabang” stands for Governor Opposed to Violence Misamis Occidental--Tabang Alang sa Babaye ug Bata Nga Ge-Abusuhan.

The “Gov Motabang” initiative is a comprehensive program that aims to empower women and children by leveraging knowledge as a key instrument. Through this program, the government aims to ensure the safety and security of women and children, while also striving to amplify their voices in decision-making processes and catalyze positive change in their lives.

Governor Henry S. Oaminal emphasized that the provincial government will continue and further strengthen the services and support for women because they recognize the pivotal role they play in nurturing their children and building their families.

He also said that this pursuit will only be realized through teamwork and shared commitment to work hand in hand so that they can create a more inclusive, equitable, and just society where every Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon ug Malipayon.

To achieve this goal, the province has divided the initiative into four phases, with each phase having a specific focus.

In the first phase, the government is focusing on strengthening the helpline accessibility and ensuring that helpline numbers are prominently displayed across schools and barangays.

The goal is to enable individuals facing abuse to seek assistance promptly and to act as a deterrent for potential abusers who target women and children.

The second phase of the program aims to promote economic empowerment through education.

National government agencies such as the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) will collaborate to present various job and business opportunities tailored for women.

The initiative aims to equip women with economic independence and involve them in family decision-making processes.

In the third phase of the program, women will be provided with training sessions on livelihood skills and proposal preparation.

The goal is to equip them with the necessary tools and skills to develop viable business proposals and enhance their entrepreneurial capabilities.

Finally, in the fourth and final phase, the government will fund approved livelihood proposals, ensuring that women have the necessary resources to turn their business ideas into reality.

Through these efforts and with the continued coordination of the various stakeholders involved, the province is confident that they will create a more inclusive, equitable, and just society where every woman and child can thrive and feel safe and secure.
