Governor Oaminal supports students from disadvantaged areas during HLI program launch

OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental — Governor Henry S. Oaminal demonstrated his commitment to supporting students from Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) by providing financial aid and take-home meal packs during the launch of the Healthy Learning Institutions (HLI) program at the capitol.

The HLI program, geared towards enhancing health and nutrition in GIDA communities, received a boost with Governor Oaminal's generous support. As part of the launch event, learners from GIDA areas were provided with essential assistance to help them with their educational journey.

Among the beneficiaries were two students from Gala Elementary School, Jasmin Gumipay and Marjun Gumilas, who expressed their gratitude for the assistance. When asked about their plans for the financial aid, they emphasized the importance of using it for essentials like rice and food, stating, "Di man makaon ang dulaan" (We cannot eat toys).

In his address, Governor Oaminal emphasized the transformative impact of recent infrastructure projects in GIDA areas. He highlighted initiatives such as the 20-million-peso road project in Calamba and the 100-million-peso Gandawan to Mansawan Don Victoriano road development spearheaded by Second District Representative Sancho Fernando “Ando” Oaminal.

These projects have significantly improved connectivity and access in historically underserved barangays, addressing longstanding challenges and fostering progress.

Governor Oaminal's remarks underscored the critical role of infrastructure investment in advancing education, community development, and overall quality of life. His commitment to these initiatives reflects a broader effort to uplift and empower communities in remote and disadvantaged areas. (Lorelei Cagas/PGMO)
