MisOcc now declared as insurgency-free area
Misamis Occidental--The
Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental is now free from the claws of the
Communist Party of the Philippines-New People Army.
This was declared during the
change of command ceremony of the 903rd Misamis Occidental Ready
Reserve Infantry Battalion (RRIBn) on Sunday, March 24.
Philippine Army's 1st Infantry
(TABAK) Division commander, MGen Gabriel C. Viray said the remaining guerilla
front operating between Misamis Occidental and Zamboanga Peninsula was finally
dismantled in December last year.
On March 3, the Armed Forces of
the Philippines approved the recommendation of Misamis Occidental as an
insurgency-free area.
On March 11, the Sangguniang
Panlalawigan of Misamis Occidental declared the province free from the
communist insurgency.
Viray stressed the huge
contributions of the Misamis Occidental government in the military’s operations
against the communist terrorist groups sowing fears within communities.
It is rare and commendable for a
sitting governor to be the commander of the ready reserve Battalion in his
province, he added, pertaining to Governor Henry S. Oaminal.
“I want you to know the
significant effort was made under Governor Oaminal's leadership in dismantling
Guerilla Front Sendong,” Viray said.
“Thanks to his guidance and
support to our units, especially the 10th Infantry Battalion, the 102nd
Brigade, and the 1st Infantry TABAK Division, the province allocated funds as a
reward for those who facilitated the surrender or neutralization of these rebels,”
he added.
“This allocation expedited our
operations, fostered greater cooperation among the populace, and bolstered the
efforts of our units on the ground to dismantle the last remaining guerrilla
front in the Zambo Peninsula and Misamis Occidental,” Viray pressed on.
In his remarks, Oaminal
emphasized the importance of peace in achieving progress within communities.
The governor noted that close
collaboration between the government and the military was crucial to the
dismantlement of the Guerrilla Front (GF)-Sendong of the Western Mindanao
Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) of the NPA.
Meanwhile, the Oaminal’s
ceremonial assumption of command marked as the official’s historic acceptance
of a new challenge to pushing for credible public service.
Oaminal is the new battalion
commander of the 903rd (MOC) RRIBn, replacing LtCol. Jaime G. Cajigas.
The ceremony was a significant
event that highlighted the robust partnership between the Philippine Army and
the Provincial Government.
The event was attended by several
dignitaries, including government officials, military officers, and community
leaders, who all came together to show their support for the new commander and
the army's mission.
Overall, the ceremony was a
testament to the strength of the partnership between the Philippine Army and
the Provincial Government, and it underscored their commitment to work together
towards a common goal of ensuring the safety and security of the people they
serve. (PGMO)
