Panguil Bay Bridge, 89% complete, to open August 2024

TANGUB CITY, Misamis Occidental -- The 3.17-kilometer Panguil Bay Bridge (PBB) project in Northern Mindanao is set to open this August with 89 percent completion rate.

Governor Henry S. Oaminal and the entire province of Misamis Occidental are thrilled about the upcoming development. This bridge will not only reduce travel time to Tangub City, Misamis Occidental, and Lanao del Norte but will also pave the way for growth and progress in the entire Zamboanga Peninsula.

Gov. Oaminal recently visited the site of the PBB project, where he led the signing of the Manual of Operations alongside the Multi-partite Monitoring Team. This team will be responsible for monitoring the compliance and ensuring that all necessary measures are taken for the development of the PBB project.

Project Manager Marlon V. Galerio from the Department of Public Works and Highways, accompanied by site engineers of Korean contractors Namkwang-Kukdong-Gumgwang Joint Venture, provided detailed updates on the status and the project's advancements.

The governor also inspected and assessed the progress of the project, in the hopes of ensuring that everything was going according to plan.

The governor exerted efforts to realize the Panguil Bay Bridge project, as former congressman and now as governor. Governor Oaminal initially proposed the project during his first 100 days message to the district in 2013, and subsequently worked hard to coordinate with various government offices such as the Mindanao Affairs Committee, Regional Development Council, DPWH, NEDA Board, and the Office of the President to secure the necessary funding and approvals.

During his visit, Governor Oaminal said that the bridge had been a dream of the people of Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, and the neighboring areas to improve travel time and economic activity.

“Ang atong kalipay ug kalipay sa atong katawhan nga na realize na gyud kay this Panguil Bay Bridge was a dream of our forefathers, now it is now longer a dream, it has become a reality. This bridge provides accessibility in bringing the services to our people here in MisOcc and of course, with our Asenso Misamis Occidental vission, this will also more or less help us realize our 5Ms development thrust: Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon ug Malipayon,” he said.

Keun Yung Kim, the Deputy Project Manager, addressed concerns regarding the Panguil Bay Bridge project, citing funding challenges and weather-related delays. However, Kim gave assurance to the governor and the public that the project would be completed by the second week of August 2024 and the bridge would be opened to the public as promised.

“This year, August of the second week, that is our last commitment. We will do our best to achieve that,’’ he said.

The bridge project which started in February 2020, will reduce travel time between Tangub City and Tubod, Lanao del Norte, to just seven minutes, from 2 hours and a half. (PGMO)

Gov. Henry Oaminal signed the Manual of Operations alongside the Multi-partite Monitoring Team.

As of February 21, the completion stands at an impressive 89%, with the incremental launching method (ILM) successfully executed on both the Tubod and Tangub sides and the ongoing construction of the main bridge portion.
