DICT, MisOcc bring internet access to far-flung areas in Clarin

CLARIN, Misamis Occidental--The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Province of Misamis Occidental have joined forces to provide internet connectivity to Barangay Dalingap in Clarin town through the Digital Transformation Initiative.

The project was launched by Secretary Ivan John E. Uy, along with DICT-10 Regional Director Sittie Rahma Alawi, Governor Henry Oaminal represented by Vice Governor Rowena Gutierrez, Clarin Mayor Jojo Roa represented by Vice Mayor Ging Delos Santos, and the Barangay Captain.

The initiative aims to provide digital access to the province’s geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA).

Secretary Uy expressed his gratitude to the officials of the province, especially Governor Henry Oaminal, for their collaboration in providing digital access to the geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) of the province.

He also announced that DICT will be deploying more solutions on connectivity and providing online courses to ensure digital inclusivity.

Vice Governor Rowena Gutierrez, on behalf of Governor Oaminal, said that the project marks the commencement of the digital transformation of GIDA to the digital gateway.

Vice Governor Rowena Gutierrez expressed her optimism that the Digital Transformation initiative, which aims to provide ICT and essential digital services to 250 families in barangay Dalingap, will be a success. She also hopes that it will pave the way for potential expansion to other GIDA and ELCAC classified communities across the region.

“May this project be a testament to our collaborative effort with DICT officials, especially Sec. Ivan Uy and team Asenso administration headed by Governor Henry Oaminal together with our municipal and barangay officials as we joined hands in achieving our aim of making Misamis Occidental a digital transform and enhancing province in our region guided by our 5Ms developmental thrust: Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon ug Malipayon,’’ the vice governor emphasized.

DICT-10 Regional Director Sittie Rahma Alawi explained that the initiative brings the power of ICT to the doorstep of the barangay. She encouraged residents to take advantage of the Internet access and training programs offered by the government.

“Simula ngayon maari na pong ma access ng mga Kabataan ang malawak at makabagong kaalaman na magagamit nila sapag-aaral, magbibigay narin po ang ating mga residente ng pagkakataon lumahok sa local at pagdaigdigang mercado at magiging abot kamay na rin natin ang mga serbisyo ng gobyerno sa isang click lamang. Ito po ang pangarap na sama-sama nating itatayo dito sa Dalingap,” Alawi emphasized.

The support given by Governor Oaminal to the DICT is a testament to the remarkable power of connectivity in the entire province. This initiative will be made possible through the collaborative effort of DICT, LGU, and the community. It is a significant milestone for Barangay Dalingap, Municipality of Clarin, and the province of Misamis Occidental, as well as the entire region 10. (SN/PGMO)
