Misamis Occidental’s BBM program brings affordable rice to Ozamiz, support to Misamisnon families

OZAMIZ CITY — May 21, 2025 — To address rising food prices, the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental, led by Governor Henry S. Oaminal, continues to implement its flagship Baratong Bugas para sa Misamisnon (BBM) Program in Ozamiz City. The initiative provides high-quality, locally sourced rice at a subsidized rate of ₱30 per kilo.

Aimed at easing the financial burden on low-income households, the BBM Program allows each eligible family to purchase up to 25 kilos of rice at the discounted price. The rice is sourced directly from local farmers, creating a dual-benefit approach: making rice more affordable for consumers while increasing income for agricultural producers.

On May 21, the program reached another significant milestone with the distribution of over 7,995 kilos of rice to residents of Barangays Cogon, Gala, Kinuman Sur, and Kinuman Norte. Long lines of residents underscored the community’s strong support for the initiative and its practical impact.

“Through the BBM Program, we are not only addressing food insecurity but also empowering our farmers by purchasing their produce at fair prices,” said Governor Oaminal. “This is Asenso governance in action—compassionate, strategic, and inclusive.”

Fully funded by the provincial government, the BBM Program supports President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.’s national food security agenda. It reflects the local government’s commitment to sustainable, community-based solutions amid ongoing economic challenges.

As the BBM Program expands throughout Misamis Occidental, it continues to deliver affordable rice to families and stable income to farmers—supporting both food security and local economic stability.(SN/PGMO)
