Governor Oaminal announces historic university status for NMSC with P19M provincial support prioritizing Misamisnon students
Misamis Occidental—In a
significant development for education, Governor Henry S. Oaminal has announced
the elevation of Northwestern Mindanao State College (NMSC) to university
status.
This advancement, made possible
through Republic Act 11186, signed by former President Rodrigo Duterte on
January 10, 2019, underscores the Governor's steadfast dedication to
educational progress in the province.
Governor Oaminal emphasized his
dedication to this goal, reflecting on years of strategic effort and
collaboration with school management to meet the necessary requirements.
"I find what is right and
what is most beneficial for our youth," he stated, highlighting the
importance of education for future generations.
The transition to university
status, expected by next month or September, requires NMSC to achieve an
enrollment of at least 6,000 students.
Currently, the college has 3,600
students from second to fourth year, and with 3,932 new entrants passing the
entrance examination, the target is within reach.
However, the immediate capacity
to accommodate these students is a challenge due to existing infrastructure
limitations.
To address this, the provincial government
of MisOcc has committed P19,142,500.00 to support the construction of
additional classrooms and the hiring of more teachers.
This budget allocation ensures
that the increased student body will be adequately accommodated, demonstrating
the local government's commitment to prioritizing Misamisnon students.
"This funding from our provincial
government is our commitment to ensuring that the youth of Misamis Occidental
have access to quality education and the opportunities that come with it,"
Governor Oaminal assured.
This investment not only
facilitates the university's compliance with enrollment requirements but also
affirms the provincial government's dedication to the educational and future
success of its residents.
Governor Oaminal's announcement
during the orientation of Asenso Pamilya education pogram highlighted the
collaboration between the local government and educational institutions in
striving for a brighter future for the youth of Misamis Occidental. (SN/PGMO)
