Governor Oaminal sends off MisOcc delegates competing in NMRAA 2024

OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental—The Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental, under the leadership of Governor Henry S. Oaminal, spearheaded the send-off rites Thursday, May 2, for the One Misamis Occidental Asenso Sports Athletic delegation, who will be competing in the Northern Mindanao Regional Athletics Association (NMRAA) meet in Camiguin, assuring them of continued government support as they strive for excellence in sports.

A special mass was held for the One MisOcc Asenso Sports Athletic delegation, bringing together athletes, coaches, trainers, the technical working group, and chaperones to pray for their success and the safety of all participants in the NMRAA.

The send-off ceremony, conducted at the Misamis Occidental Provincial Athletic Complex (MOPAC) Grounds in Oroquieta City, featured supportive messages and reminders from Governor Oaminal and officials of DepEd-MisOcc.

Governor Oaminal expressed his confidence in the team, stating, "Tomorrow, you will be leaving for Camiguin for a very challenging mission. Your mission is to ensure that Misamis Occidental emerges as the top contender in region 10 in this sports competition. Your dedication and inspiration displayed during training clearly indicate that we are bound for success."

He emphasized that this mission marks the beginning of the sports development program, extending beyond this regional competition. The province aims for Misamisnons athletes to participate not only in the Palarong Pambansa but also in other national and, if possible, international competitions. The officials of the provincial and local governments are fully committed to accompanying them in the competition to provide the necessary support and inspiration.

Governor Oaminal reassured the athletes of the provincial government’s unwavering support, promising incentives for medalists as a token of recognition for their hard work and dedication.

"As a token of recognition for bringing honor to our province, we will reward each gold medalist with ₱50,000 in cash, ₱20,000 for silver medalists, and ₱10,000 for bronze medalists. Moreover, if we achieve the overall champion status, our delegation will receive a substantial prize,’’ Governor Oaminal further announced incentives to motivate the athletes.

In addition to the incentives, Governor Oaminal emphasized the importance of embodying Misamis Occidental's core values. "As we strive for progress under our vision of Asenso MisOcc, rooted in the 5Ms development thrust of making Misamisnons Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon ug Malipayon, let us demonstrate to our fellow athletes in Northern Mindanao that our peaceful demeanor is reflected not only in how we compete but also in our sportsmanship and camaraderie, which we share with our fellow athletes," he shared.

Prior to the send-off, athletes endured unyielding training and participated in tune-up games to further test their skills and agility through the in-house training of the provincial government held at the MOPAC from February to April 2024.

This was the first time that the MisOcc delegates for the NMRAA were given a send-off to encourage them to do their best during the competition.

They will compete in various categories -- badminton, basketball, chess, Sepak Takraw, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, swimming, football, baseball, softball, and others. (SN/PGMO)
