Newly elected village officials undergo GREAT program sessions
The
Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental in partnership with the Department
of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Misamis Occidental and Liga ng Barangay
Provincial Federation kicked off its two-day Barangay Newly Elected Officials
Towards Grassroots Renewal and Empowerment for Accountable and Transparent
(BNEO GREAT) Basic Orientation Course to the barangays of Tudela.
The program
aims to capacitate the newly-elected barangay officials to enable them to
perform their mandated tasks and responsibilities.
Throughout
the training, the participants are also taught how to build a continuum of
capacity development framework for actions anchored on the basic tenets of good
governance such as transparency, accountability, and integrity, and
participatory governance and corruption-free communities.
Gov. Henry
S. Oaminal challenged the participants to perform well in their roles and
functions as barangay leaders—as the provincial government leans on them for
community support.
With this,
Oaminal assured them of the province’s full support for their good governance
endeavors.
“Let us
continue to develop Tudela para sa pag Asenso. Kamo nga mga Tudelanhon should
be set as a model towards our direction,” he said.
DILG-MisOcc
Provincial Director Pablio Jun Benetiz said that orientation will serve as an
avenue for the participants to enrich their knowledge of the plans and programs
that they can implement in their respective barangays.
Provincial
Planning and Development Officer William Valles explained the importance of the
implementation of the Provincial thrust—which is the 5M's.
He said the
help of local barangay leaders is crucial to effectively deliver public service
to the people.
Their
serious efforts and actions are likewise significant in pushing a
whole-of-government approach to achieving development goals in the province.
Valles also
highlighted the major programs, and projects of the Asenso administration in
terms of agriculture, education, tourism, health and hospital services, peace
and order, sports, and other social services in the province.
He then
emphasized the vital role of providing genuine public service and underscored
the positive impact of leaders within their communities.
Participants
include Punong Barangays, Sangguniang Kabataan officials, Sangguniang Barangay
Members, Barangay Treasurers, and Barangay Secretaries.
The
orientation was made for around 6,000 elected village officials in the
province, including chairpersons of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) from the 490
barangays of the province of Misamis Occidental.
The BNEO
GREAT orientation for the succeeding batches of village officials will continue
until May 2024. (SN/PGMO)
